vRealize Automation 8.11.1: New Features and Resolved Issues

February 21, 2023

vRealize Automation 8.11.1 was recently released, bringing new features and improvements to the platform. Among the most notable enhancements are the SaltStack Day2 Action Enhancements, the support for Terraform 1.0, customized notifications in Service Broker, and storage allocation limits for capacity management. Additionally, the release includes several resolved issues that were affecting the platform’s stability and usability.

One of the significant improvements in vRealize Automation 8.11.1 is the ability to configure additional properties to SaltStack Day-2 action “Attach SaltStack Resource.” This update allows the configuration of “additionalAuthParams,” “additionalMinionParams,” and “pillarEnvironment” properties, providing greater flexibility for SaltStack automation.

Another major update is the support for Terraform 1.0 in the vRealize Automation Terraform Service and accompanying Terraform provider. This new capability enables vRA customers to consume Terraform 1.0 and take advantage of the latest features and capabilities offered by the tool.

Customized notifications in Service Broker is another notable feature in this release. Users can now customize the look and feel of notification emails sent out from VMware vRealize Automation Service Broker. Additionally, email headers and footers can be standardized to an organization’s branding requirements across all notification templates. Users can now edit the email’s body text for each notification scenario and utilize dynamic attributes of deployments in the text.

Capacity management has also been enhanced in vRealize Automation 8.11.1, with the addition of storage allocation limits at the datastore level for all managed disks. During provisioning, these properties are checked for placements to prevent storage overallocation. This new capability is controlled by a feature toggle that is turned off by default, preventing any storage overallocation.

vRealize Automation Resolved Issues

Several resolved issues are also included in this release, including the restoration of support for vRA Console to establish VMRC connections, enhancements to Identity service endpoint to have more restrictive access, and fixes for various vRealize Orchestrator issues, among others.

In conclusion, vRealize Automation 8.11.1 introduces several significant enhancements and improvements to the platform, offering users greater flexibility and more robust capabilities. The addition of support for Terraform 1.0 and customized notifications in Service Broker will undoubtedly be welcome additions to users, as will the enhanced capacity management capabilities. Meanwhile, the resolved issues will contribute to a more stable and reliable vRealize Automation environment.
